Anna Maria Liszt
At Dominikanerplatz 5, Anna Maria Lager, the mother of the famous composer Franz Liszt, was born in 1788. She was the ninth of 10 children. When she lost both her parents at a very early age, she moved to live with one of her elder brothers and worked as a parlour maid. In 1811, she married Adam Liszt, a manager of the Count of Esterházy Estate.
In the same year, their only son Franz was born. Soon, he became known as „wunderkind“, a specially gifted musical talent. Both parents supported their son in every possible way.
When Adam died quite surprisingly, Anna Maria became even more important for her son, who was a rather difficult person. Neverttheless, she always supported him and educated his three children, when the relationship to their mother, countess Marie d’Agoult, ended.
Anna Maria died at the age of 78 in Paris at the house of her granddaughter Blandine, wife of the later French President, Emile Ollivier.
